Making a paint composition

  • After the solution has acquired the consistency of liquid sour cream, add a suitable colorant (the best option is a colorant for mixing in water-based paints).
  • Next, stir the solution until it acquires a uniform color.
  • If the paint on cement is made for future use, it is advisable to use a bucket and a drill with a special attachment for mixing. The dosage in this case is 2 kg of Portland cement per 10 liters of water.

Important: The cement base precipitates if the finished paint is stored for longer than an hour. Because of this, the composition needs to be thoroughly mixed once more before being used. You can also add tiny amounts of water to the mixture as it thickens. Since the solution’s duration is usually only three to four hours, you should plan a composition that you can finish in that amount of time.

Painting technology

Using cement paints rather than conventional plasters

Painting wall plaster or cement floors is done in two steps:

  • Apply the first liquid layer with a wide brush. Try to rub the composition into the surface being treated as much as possible.
  • A day after applying the first layer, prepare the tinted solution again, but a little thicker than the first time. Apply this layer with a velor roller. To compensate for defects in the plaster of the walls, you can use a textured roller.

A spray gun can be used to apply paint on large surfaces, which will expedite the process and improve the quality of the final product.

Important: It is best to wet the surface with water an hour before painting in order to prevent the paint from drying out before applying the solution. Furthermore, for a full day following painting, make sure the drying surface is not exposed to direct sunlight.

It is worth noting that the DIY solution can be applied to metal structures and offers corrosion protection comparable to that of Zinga conductive paint.

After first moistening the metal structures, the composition is applied, ensuring the required adhesion. Painting metal in the sun is not advised because the iron heats up and the cement layer will dry out and crack.

The color palette of factory-produced polymer cement paint is rather small:

  • white;
  • yellow;
  • light yellow;
  • terracotta;
  • beige-pink;
  • light green,
  • gray;
  • light blue.

Packaging for these compositions comes in two packs. A pigmented emulsion is contained in one package, and a dry cement mixture with fillers is contained in the other. All ingredients are combined and dissolved in water right there on the spot, following the manufacturer’s directions.

For external painting of concrete, brick, metal, and wooden structures, ready-made paint is utilized to improve the treated surfaces’ durability and aesthetic appeal.

Important: Because polymer cement compositions have a strong resistance to critical temperature values, they can also be applied to metal surfaces as fire-retardant paints.

At least 20 degrees Celsius should be the ambient temperature when applying the composition. It takes two hours to dry.

Selection of pigments for tinting cement
