What is DSP?

CSP, or cement-bonded particle board, explained. The following elements are present in the products:

  • High grade Portland cement (from M400) – 65%.
  • Wood shavings (most often coniferous) – at least 24% of the total mass.
  • Water without impurities – 8.5%.
  • Special mineral additives (sodium silicate, aluminum sulfate and others) – 2.5%.

GOST 26816-86 confirms that the products are composite materials and have been known for a while. It was out of demand for a considerable amount of time because of the construction market’s great diversity.

At the moment, GOST 26816-2016 governs the material’s production. This standard is based on European standards EN 634-1:1995 and EN 634-2:2007 as well as a document from 1986. The products’ great qualities and affordable price explain why there is a growing demand for them, but their availability is still fairly limited.

Production of the material

The following steps are included in the technology used to manufacture the boards:

  1. Preparation of components is carried out. For this, the wood raw material is cleaned and crushed. The resulting chips must be smooth and of the required size.
  2. In natural products there are substances that prevent high -quality clutch (sugar, tar), therefore, the initial processing with special mineral additives is carried out.
  3. The resulting mass is mixed with Portland cement and water to the desired consistency. It is taken into account that all components that must be included in the composition have clear proportions.
  4. A sheet corresponding to the specified parameters is formed on special equipment. Most often, a large fraction of chips occupies the middle of the plate, and small ones are located at the edges.
  5. The resulting product goes under a cold press, where it takes shape under high pressure. By regulating the amount of mass used and the degree of compression, the desired thickness is obtained.
  6. Temperature exposure is used as an additional treatment. After this, the panel goes to a special workshop, where it is kept for 2 weeks until the desired indicators are achieved.

With the continuous advancement of modern production, it is now possible to obtain CSP sheets without sacrificing properties, even with a minimum thickness of 6 mm.

Advantages and disadvantages

There are numerous benefits that set this material apart from the rest:

  • Resistance to mechanical influences. Thanks to the multilayer structure of parts and high strength, the surface is not damaged even with a serious load.
  • The possibility of finishing. The peculiarity of the product is the lack of the need for complex preparation and cladding, as when working with chipboard or fiberboard. Both wallpaper and tiles are well mounted on such a base.
  • Environmental friendliness. There are disputes due to the possible danger of wood panels, which is explained by the presence of formaldehyde resins, so the CSP is an excellent alternative. The components included in the composition are not harmful to health. Even when exposed to significant temperatures, toxic pairs are not excreted.
  • Fire safety. According to existing standards, the material does not have combustibility and does not contribute to the spread of flame. In addition, the heat resistance of the plates makes it possible to use near heating devices.
  • Moisture resistance. The absorption level is minimal, so the structures are not exposed to deformation or destruction, but it is necessary to avoid prolonged contact with water.
  • Visual appeal. The cladding with such panels has an excellent decorative appearance without additional finishing. Various manufacturing methods allow you to get embossing that suits many design solutions.

However, the CSP board also has drawbacks:

  1. Large mass. The parts weigh much more than MDF, chipboard or OSB. This creates difficulties during transportation and installation. During installation, more significant reinforcement of the base may be required.
  2. Difficulty of cutting. It is not easy to process the elements, serious efforts are required. In addition, dust is generated in the process, which requires the use of a respirator.
  3. Need to create an installation plane. The panels must be laid on a frame or a very flat surface.

Types of cement-bonded particle boards

The panels are composed similarly and let you select the appropriate material for a given circumstance:

  • Xylolite. The base contains shavings and magnesite cement. It has high strength, so it can be used as a floor covering.
  • Fibrolite. For production, wood raw materials that have undergone special processing and burnt magnesite are used. Portland cement is used as a binder. The resulting parts are soft and suitable for thermal insulation.
  • Arbolite. A fairly popular variety for external and internal work.

Depending on the thickness, it is also common practice to divide the parts by the area of use. There are two product brands: CSP-1 and CSP-2, which have different specifications.

Cement-bonded particle boards, which combine the flexibility of wood particles with the strength of cement, provide a long-lasting and adaptable wall decoration option.   5. Thermal conductivity. Coefficient – 0.26 W/(m K). If you cover a house with such material, its energy efficiency will increase.
  • width – 120 and 125 cm (standard);
  • length – 320 and 360 cm;
  • thickness – from 6 to 36 mm;
  • weight is determined by dimensions: a panel of 1200*3200*36 will weigh 195 kg.

Other restrictions apply; according to regulatory documents, parts of the necessary sizes may be manufactured.
